Drake continued his 2020 marathon with the release of his latest song, "Laugh Now Cry Later" featuring Lil Durk. Even though the year didn't really get a true "summer" due to the coronavirus pandemic, Drizzy lit up computer screens with the TikTok viral "Toosie Slide," the DJ Khaled tracks "Pop Style" and "Greece" and the already multi-platinum "Life is Good" collab with his buddy Future.
"Laugh Now Cry Later," produced by Cardo Got Wings, Yung Exclusive, G. Ry and Rogét Chahayed, gives us yet another ditty to bop around to. The five-minute visual, directed by Dave Meyers, is basically a glorified Nike commercial as Champagne Papi flexes in various fits throughout, from workout gear to a fly puffy pink jacket with hearts embroidered on it. He takes influencer Aggy Abby on a shopping spree to Nike headquarters in Portland and makes plays with some of sports' biggest stars.
Kevin Durant, who is now a Brooklyn Net, is the first mega-athlete to appear in "Laugh Now Cry Later." His Achilles injury forced him to sit out this season, but he looked ok enough for a lil shootaround with Drake. Odell Beckham Jr. plays some catch with Drizzy before Marshawn Lynch goes full Beast Mode.
Drake and Lil Durk share screen time in a faux NBA Draft photo shoot reminiscent of the late 1990s/early 2000s oversized suits and all. They both rep their hometowns, the former the defending champion Toronto Raptors while the Chicago MC sports a Bulls hat.
"Laugh Now Cry Later" is the typical, corny, only-Drake-could-make-it-kinda-cool video and it's worth the watch. With the release of the song comes the information that Drake's new album — lucky No.6 — is called "Certified Lover Boy," so stay tuned for that.
