Aminé is making sure he's staying in conversations as he dropped the video for "Woodlawn" this week. The track is a cut off his "Limbo" LP that dropped in August and is continuing to be analyzed as music critics begin to compile their year-end lists.
The "Woodlawn" video, directed by Adam Daniel & Jack Begert, pays homage to the neighborhood in northern Portland that Aminé calls home. He bounces around with his friends against a series of backdrops, including the local basketball court, in the desert, on a snowy mountain and in an ultimate Portland Trail Blazers fan cave.
The Blazers, led by point guard Damian Lillard, made a splash this season, winning several heart-stopping games in the NBA Bubble, but finishing just one game short of making the playoffs. Aminé's expressed his fandom for the squad several times before and you can also see his Rip City back tattoo in the video's opening shot.
There's more sports ink in the video too. As broken down in Track Meet, "Woodlawn" pays tribute to Kobe Bryant, who died in January, and in the video, Aminé shows off his Black Mamba #8 tattoo on his arm.
The "Woodlawn" video continues Aminé's run of fun music full of freedom and personal expression. Since he captured the country with "Caroline" three years ago, he's established himself as an elite wordsmith and true creative.
