While COVID-19 has slowed down independent businesses and disrupted the flow of the fashion world, it appears that Fear of God remains running on all cylinders. This week, the luxury clothing company announced its latest Essentials line is due out Friday. Essentials is targeted toward a younger crowd at a more affordable price point while maintaining the timelessness and effortlessness of the lead brand.
Founder Jerry Lorenzo weaves in his personal influences of sport and hip-hop into every collection, which makes for ultimate wearability. The latest Essentials collection features polos, henleys, sweaters, sweatpants and denim. The colors are true to the Fear of God aesthetic of grays, blacks and creams. A cozy mock neck sweater and a new branded waistband on some of the bottoms are standout details from the new collection. The pieces range in price from $40 to $200.
Along with look book images shot by Shaniqwa Jarvis, Essentials released a short film done by Lane Stewart, who filmed the campaigns for Fear of God's collections.
On the day of the vice presidential debate, Fear of God Essentials also released a special tribute to vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the form of a T-shirt and hoodie. Lorenzo said on Instagram the pieces are not meant to be political, but celebrate all women of color, especially his wife and mother as he sees Harris as an example for his twin girls to look up to. All proceeds go to Black Futures Lab, an organization that advocates for political activism in the Black community. The Kamala Harris tribute sweatshirt was sold out by the time of publication, but the T-shirt is still available for $75 at Essentials Instagram.
The Essentials drop comes on the heels of Fear of God's Seventh Collection, which introduces tailoring to the main line and pays homage to the baseball Negro Leagues, which celebrated its centennial this year. Fear of God also recently released its collaboration with Italian fashion house Ermenegildo Zegna, which officially marked the brand's crossover into luxury.
The Essentials Fall 2020 collection will be available Friday in stores and online at select retailers.
